A sneak peek at Dave + Vanessa’s Geelong Wedding

Ok, so I’ve been waiting for Dave and Vanessa to get back from their honeymoon and see all the images before I post any on the blog but I’ve been itching to post just a couple and besides, I think they’ll be back today or tomorrow

When Dave and Vanessa asked me to photograph their Wedding I was pretty excited. I’ve known Dave for a looong time, since nippers at the Ocean Grove Surf Club (that’s about 14 years ago!!), we’ve travelled interstate for competitions and he even flew over to Hawaii for my Wedding. He’s a great guy and a great mate, but being overseas for a few years I hadn’t met Vanessa before I agreed to photograph their Wedding, I was pretty confident she’d be a great gal and I wasn’t wrong!

Both D + V are really laid back, easy going people so their Wedding was guaranteed to be a lot of fun.

While the girls had an early start to the day, hair and make up arrived at 8am, the boys had an early start too – an 8.30am surf at Beacon

Abena + Kerim’s Wedding Photography at Alice Austin House Staten Island NY

Ang and I had another opportunity to spend the day with the Asare family, this time for Abena’s (Amma’s sister) Wedding. We had such a fun time with the photography for Kerim + Abena’s Wedding! K + A are two such wonderful, genuine souls and their families have so much love for each other it’s inspiring!

Kerim and Abena lived in our neighbourhood in Brooklyn and we’d quite often bump into them at our local coffee shop, The Glass Shop (I miss the glass shop ). K + A had decided to have an Island destination Wedding on the ever so exotic Staten Island, NY J

They did manage to find an absolute gem of a venue for the Ceremony and Reception though – The Alice Austin House. It’s a beautiful old house and property with views of Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Verrazano Bridge. The whole day had such a warm, welcoming and relaxed vibe – well suited to the beautiful couple. Abena and Kerim put a lot of effort into the organising of their Wedding. Abena hand made really cute save the date card’s, they sourced beautiful flowers for the table settings and bouque’s and super cool retro glass bottles of soda, they went right down to details like using African and South American coffee bean hessian’s as table runners.

Abena’s dress was influenced by both the traditional Western style Wedding dress and African. Tailor made in New York it’s a beautiful and unique Wedding dress.

We slipped off before the ceremony for a fun portrait session not far from the Alice Austin House at Fort Wadsworth – it’s an awesome retired fort tucked away amongst a little forest of greenery.

We had a great summer with Abena, Kerim, Amma, Amir and their families, the only sad point came at the end of the night when we had to say good bye.

Xenia + Saul’s Wedding Photography from Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture

Well, I fell behind again with this blog over the US summer, it was a busy time photography wise but also from a personal point of view for Ang and I as our time living in Brooklyn drew to a close. It seemed like the right time to leave, we had a blast living in New York, but felt it was really time to move back to Melbourne and settle down in one spot. So now, as we begin to lay some roots in Melbourne the blog is almost back up to date with all the Weddings I’ve been photographing over the last few months!

It was such a pleasure to photograph Xenia + Saul’s Wedding. They’re a laid back couple and just wanted to enjoy the company of their close friends and family on their Wedding day. It was a Wedding close to home for us, just across the park in Park Slope. The Wedding was held at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture on Prospect Park West.

We took advantage of the BSEC’s proximity to Prospect Park and headed over for a few portraits. Xenia + Saul were great during the shoot, just feeding off each other and having a great time!

Back at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture the Wedding was well attended by people from all over; Xenia’s parents, brother and other family members came over from Israel as well as many friends from around the country. The Ceremony itself was very much in the vibe of X + S, they had some great music, beautiful words and their own vows. After the Ceremony there was no need for the guests to move on to another location so everyone was able to relax with a few drinks, good food and some fun times on the dance floor. Everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves!

Howard + Jamie’s Portrait session in the High Line Park, New York City

These are some photos from a great portrait session I had with Howard + Jamie. It was H + J’s 1 year Wedding Anniversary. Howard and I thought we had been really sneaky with the organisation of this, the portrait session was supposed to be a surprise for Jamie, but turns out she was on to us from the minute the two of them left their apartment!

The high line park is in the meat-packing district of Manhattan, it’s an awesome spot for afternoon portraits. It’s built on the old train line that was used by the factories in the area to transport their products out of the city. It’s totally decked out with native plants and grasses. The park stretches a few miles up the west side of Manhattan, going under and through buildings. It has a great rustic feel with the contrast of natural and industrial elements.

It was a perfect afternoon in the meat packing district, the light was warm and golden, but it wasn’t too hot. Jamie was a little nervous at first but she settled into it very quickly. The two of them looked great, they were so relaxed and natural and we all had heaps of fun!
